Rick McLean has been a guest lecturer at Colleges and Universities across North America due to his lifelong study of Anishinaube teachings and traditions. Rick is able to empower Indigenous groups by sharing the tools and teachings given to him by many wise elders over the years. Rick is also a sought-after speaker to assist non-native groups/government agencies in gaining a better understanding of our many aboriginal communities and First Nations. Some of the products Rick has facilitated at conferences are:
Healing the Wound of Racism
After centuries of abuse and intolerance, aboriginal people are awakening with a renewed sense of identity and pride. We now have the time and space to consider how we wish to walk as we share Turtle Island with non-native peoples. This session boldly explores our own potential for intolerance and gives tools for healing from the grief caused by the loss of our ways. The Seven Fires Prophecy is used as the guide to this sessions discussions.
Two Cultures, One Family
In this world of blended families and adoption, it is becoming more prevalent to hear families struggling with competing cultures. Traditional wisdom beckons us to “honour the bones of our parents”, and that can include native and non-native parents. In this session, participants will gain the insight and skills to successfully negotiate this growing trend in families today.

Assessment
The Emotional Quotient Inventory
The Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-I) is a success indicator. This reliable, well-normed tool is used by the N.H.L. on all draft picks, by Fortune 500 companies, and the military to locate success oriented candidates. The EQ-I) uses 133 statements that are ranked on a scale of 1-5 by the participant in order to generate a report that is the basis for personal development.
The EQ-I measures five basic areas of functioning; the INTRAPERSONAL (how well do you know yourself), the INTERPERSONAL (people skills); STRESS TOLERANCE, ADAPTABILITY, and GENERAL MOOD. These scales are broken down further into fifteen skills or intelligences. A skilled counsellor will work with the participant to interpret the report and help develop an individual success plan.
The EQ-I can also be used by band councils, agencies, or businesses to determine the Emotional Intelligence of an entire group. This can be useful for planning target specific professional development plans so the agency or business as a whole is more successful. Unlike your I.Q. (cognitive intelligence), your emotional intelligence can improve very quickly and propel you closer to your goals, whatever they might be.
The Myers-Briggs Inventory
The MBTI® instrument is based on years of observations by the psychologist Carl Jung and by the instrument’s authors, Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother, Katharine Cook Bridges. Their ideas explain why different kinds of people are interested in different things, are good at different kinds of work, and sometimes find it hard to understand each other. The MBTI® instrument was developed with great care and has been used by people around the world for more than 20 years. Family members use it to understand each other better. Teachers and students use it to make learning more interesting and efficient. Young people and adults use it to choose careers that are likely to hold their interest and use their gifts. Organizations use type information to improve communication, teamwork and leadership.
A clear understanding of the basics of your type and type development will be helpful throughout the rest of your life. Personality type development is a life-long process of gaining greater command over your individual strengths and preferences.
